Steve Henes Computer Support     Background

Steve Henes Computer Support has been working with clients in Arizona and neighboring states since 1985. The software I specialize in includes
the financial packages:

  • Timeslips:  the most sophisticated legal billing package on the market
  • Abacus Accounting:   the most complete integrated accounting and legal billing package on the market with true integration into a case management program
  • Amicus Accounting:   which is the accounting package that integrates tightly with Amicus Attorney

and the practice management packages:

  • AbacusLaw
  • Amicus Attorney

These software packages are the best in the industry, and reflect the quality you can expect from Steve Henes Computer Support. Each offers its own set of advantages and disadvantages, and each has its own particular "personality".

Case management packages offer a particular advantage over Personal Information Managers (PIMs) such as ACT!, Goldmine, or Outlook for tracking case files, projects, properties, or undertakings. This is because these programs are case-centric or project-centric rather than contact-centric. A case file is not the same thing as a contact and needs to be dealt with differently. While a good case management program can track the contacts in the contact list with greater aplomb than the typical contact management software, you can also track any emails, documents, notes, appointments, to-dos, or contacts associated with any case, any contact, or any group of cases or contacts. You can also track the type of relationship each contact has with the case (eg client, opposing attorney, judge, witness, adjuster, physician, insurance company, expert witness, etc.) Sometimes a contact may be a client on one case, for example, and a special witness on another. You can actually track just about anything you can conceive of tracking, which will be demonstrated if you study the examples demonstrated on this website. (under construction)

So while a practice management program has all the features you've come to expect in the calendar or contact features of the best PIMs, it actually contains a lot more that makes it easy to follow your case files as well. You can also handle it to complete the document assembly of your legal forms, handle your billing, maintain your general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and your credit card transactions. The structure of case management software is more intuitive, flexible, powerful than you'd expect if you haven't used a good practice management program before.

In addition to selling, installing, setting up, training, and troubleshooting these software packages, Steve Henes Computer Support can help you with more general software and hardware troubleshooting. When your network or computer just isn't working right, when you need help setting up reliable backup systems and procedures, when you need help setting up or changing a home page, or you experience any of a myriad of computer issues that just crop up in the typical office, Steve Henes Computer Support is there to help, and has been there for over 20 years.

Other than introducing you to the services of Steve Henes Computer Support, this site strives to provide value by providing a more comprehensive description of the software than you can get from the websites of the software companies themselves. That's because those sites are more focused on selling their software than providing education about the software. I looked at the Time Matters site and couldn't even find a screenshot of what the first page of their software looks like. There may be a reason for that, but it can't be a good one. This site provides information on the packages I support that is hard to find anywhere else on the internet.

You'll find one of the more comprehensive and better organized lists of legal links on the web. There's also a list of Tips, Tricks, and Techniques for computer software, and links to some of the more useful and less known utility packages - many are freeware packages that exceed the functionality of anything you can buy.

Steve Henes Computer Support publishes several different email newsletters. The three primary newsletters focus on

These newsletters can come as often as several times a week or as infrequently as once a year. If you're interested, or want to learn more, be sure and click the bottom link to the right.
